Textiles

Textiles form a story that is full of meaning. The materiality of textiles is assertive and asks questions about identity and meaning. It broadens our historiography. Each textile material can be tailored to possess the exact properties you desire, but it can also tell the story you wish to communicate. Effective, but with care.

This year’s degree projects from the Textiles Bachelor’s Programme are full of the potential of textiles. They show a wide spectrum of specialisations, questions and influences. With great courage and a deepened knowledge of materials and craftsmanship, they investigate and ask important questions about traditions and norms, gender and sustainability, dreams and reality, the individual and the collective, our present and our future. Questioningly, prospectively, playfully and purposefully. Through critical reflection and their own handiwork, they take risks and use the craft and the material to ask questions:

Can we use textiles to give a richer experience of the world and our times? Can textiles invite new stakeholders, and lead the way to new opportunities? Can textiles give a tactile experience of presence, of care and everyday life, or a hint of meaning?

Over the last three years, the bachelor students – Agnes Ersson, Carolina Alvear Bello, Eleonor Frankenberg, Emelie Fryklind, Emma Bengtsson, Heléne Andersson, Johan Lundin, Johanna Nilsson, Linnea Norén and Sandra Leandersson – have been dealing with these questions through both practical and theoretical works. Step by step, they have developed their methodology, artistry and critical ability. These achievements are now summed up in the degree projects presented in the Konstfack Degree Exhibition.

We, who have had the pleasure of working with this year’s graduating students, welcome you all to come see their elaborate and exciting degree projects, and we look forward to seeing what they do in the future! Good luck!

Textil
