“Everyday life” can perhaps be understood as the way that humans—as individuals, groups, or in society at large – normally act, think, and feel in our daily lives. Everyday life defines us, as well as our understanding of the world around us, and of each other. It becomes a form of normality on which we base our behaviour, our choices, our thoughts, and our preconceptions.

Whose everyday life are we talking about?

The bachelor students at Ädellab ask questions about everyday life and how it is characterised by the interactions we have throughout it. This becomes the point from which their interpretative works depart. Their work is about the fear we experience when we feel exposed; how distance makes us numb to the suffering of others; and the intolerance that unfamiliar bodies are faced with. They discuss the marginalisation that occurs when we suffer mental ill-health or when we age. They also show a willingness to initiate a dialogue about masculinity, while testing possible approaches to the female body and the concept of femininity.

In the students’ works, taboos, fears, and prejudices meet courage and resistance. Their questions are discussed through their own experiences, but also through dialogue with others. Hence, they become urgent issues that challenge the prevailing order.

The questions asked by these students matter to all of us.
