Interior Architecture and Furniture Design

… much has been said on the subject of design, but as the architect and furniture designer Charlotte Perriand once put it: “… after all, design is about responding to the gestures of the human being. Then there is a side even beyond this, which has to do with a sort of harmony with oneself, with one’s environment; this kind of awareness affects everything.” (Charlotte Perriand)

This year’s bachelor’s exhibition in Interior Architecture and Furniture Design represents a great number of questions. What they all have in common is that they, each in their own way, do what Charlotte Perriand describes as “responding to a human being’s gestures,” and that they also, like the student’s process, attempt to explore and perform. To strive to be in harmony with oneself in relation to one’s surroundings, with the aim of creating an awareness of space and form that will make an impact.

The projects deal with process, question and challenge many of the norms that are inherent in our most common everyday situations. They all aim to develop the subjects of interior architecture and furniture design by using new tools and knowledge that we can relate to and work with in our present and in the future. Analytical ¬methods and artistic processes are used to investigate the relationships and connections between spatial and material properties, in which past, present, future, techniques, interpretation as well as manufacturing are interwoven within new methods that the student can bring into their future artistry as an interior architect or furniture ¬designer.

The result can be seen through a multitude of contemporary, sometimes close to utopian, scenarios.
Through a playful use of concepts and art ¬forms, representations, installations, models, prototypes, moving images and material ¬investigations are processed with the intention to engage a future user, based on various social perspectives, in a spatial experience or design proposal.

“Less is more” (Mies Van Der Rohe)

….mycket har sagts om design, men som arkitekten och möbeldesignern Charlotte Perriand en gång uttryckte det: “… after all, design is about responding to the gestures of the human being. Then there is a side even beyond this, which has to do with a sort of harmony with oneself, with one’s environment; this kind of awareness affects everything.” (Charlotte Perriand)
